Tip of the Magic Hat #15

Welcome to another installment of Tip of the Magic Top Hat, a series where I will share my favorite MTG related articles or other content.  Topics will vary from week to week but will likely include things like, MTG Comedy, Strategy, Limited Play, MTG Community, MTG Finance, etc.

#1 An Old Man Remembers Magic: The Gathering In The '90s - Mana Burn

By Tolarian Community College
Category: Comedy

As an old man who played a lot of Magic in the 90's I found this hilarious.  Perhaps you youngsters will too although probably at the expense of us old fogies.  Tolarian Community College has done a few of these and they are really funny, however, the best TCC videos are the product reviews.  Check them out, well worth it.

#2 Getting DQ’d in Ohio

Category:  Competitive, Rules
By

I think this is a really great article and one I am sure was not easy to write for Caleb. More importantly however, I think it has sparked a much needed discussion regarding collusion and conceding/splitting of prizes.  I personally feel that while Caleb and his opponent did something that was not ok, they were led down that path by the judges of the event.  Not only that, I feel that this is really a symptom of a bigger problem - that the judging community does not seem to all be on the same page regarding how to handle potential collusion.  Should judges and the MTG community turn a blind eye to this sort of collusion or crack down on it?  Personally I think there needs to be much better education on why this is not good for the game of Magic and training for judges as to how not to encourage this and how to help players not just avoid getting caught colluding but rather avoid it all together.  I personally won't be splitting or conceding in a PTQ match I play.  I go to PTQs to play competitive Magic, period.

#3 Limited Resources #266 – Khans of Tarkir Sunset Show

Category: Limited, Strategy, Khans of Tarkir, Fate Reforged

Limited Resources has long been my all time favorite Magic podcast.  It has single-handedly level up my game more times that I can count, certainly more than any other source of Magic related strategy. Marshall Sutcliff may not be the best Limited Magic player but I think he is by far the best at producing high quality content aimed and helping you improve your game.  Although I will miss Brian Wong as the co-host very much having LSV as the new co-host can only be a good thing.

Thanks for reading, check back next week for more great articles, podcasts, and other MTG content.
