3-0 Magic Origins Draft (8-4 MTGO)

Green White has certainly been good to me.  Despite being low on quality removal I had great creatures and rode over everyone.  I went 2-0, 2-0, and 2-1.  Only losing one game in the finals to a
Zendikar's Roil deck.

4-0 Magic Origins Prerelease: Competitive Sealed (MTGO)

Another great white/green deck that I rode to victory this prerelease.  Anointer of Champions was awesome and having two meant that I almost always started the game with one early and sometimes got both out.  Kytheon's Irregulars again was an all-star bomb.  I didn't get Managorger Hydra often but there was one game where it just took over.  Dwynen was surprisingly great even with only four other elves.

At first I really didn't think this deck had it in it.  I would have felt a lot more comfortable with one or two more removal spells, particularly something at instant speed.  In the end though the 3 Suppression Bonds and Kytheon's Irregulars were enough to win the day.

Undefeated against “Jonny Magic” Jon Finkel!

Yes, that is right.  Every time I face Jon Finkel I win, 100% of the time.  Either I am a Magic genius or somehow I just have Jon Finkel’s number.  To date, I have played Jon Finkel a grand total of one time and won every time.  ;) 

Seriously, I got to play against the Jon Finkel at a charity event for Gamers’ Helping Gamers held at Kirwan’s Game Store on April 18^th, 2015.  For a donation to the charity I got to play some sealed deck against Jon.  For my victory I got a pack of Dragons of Tarkir as well as this sweet autograph for my Cube:

Magic All-Stars - #1

Welcome to another installment of Magic All-Stars, a series where I will share with you the best MTG related content on the internet.  Topics vary but will include Grading Cards, Product Reviews, MTG Finance, CUBE, and MTG Strategy, MTG Community, etc.

Grading Cards

 The first and probably most important thing to remember when grading cards is to read the explanation of a given vendor's grading scale.  Grading cards is a relative thing and different aspects of a cards condition and different types of damage is more or less important to different people.  I think YouTuber Openboosters does the best job of explaining this concept and uses great examples to show how one person might grade a card EX while another might grade the same card NM.

Not only is card grading relative but on top of that there are actually two very different systems of grading to choose from.  YouTuber mtgmythic does the best job of breaking the the systems and showing how to translate from one system to another.

Personally I prefer the trading card system (NM, LP/SP, MP. HP, D) when looking at card that have value but will are also likely to see a lot of play.  I think it best fits cards that have taken damage specifically from being played over time (even sleeved).  However, the sports card system (NM, EX, VG, G, P/D) is best for very high end and high dollar cards where any little nick or cut can matter.
